AI Search Visibility Generative engine optimization (GEO) for SaaS and fintech

Your buyers are asking ChatGPT which tool to choose. Your brand is either in that answer or it isn't. I find out what AI assistants tell your buyers about you, which sources shape those answers and what it takes to become the brand they recommend.

What changed

Buyers now ask AI before they reach Google

A buyer comparing tools no longer opens ten tabs. They ask an AI assistant to summarize the options, shortlist vendors and explain the tradeoffs. By the time they visit a website, the shortlist is often already made.

  • The shortlist happens inside the answer

When ChatGPT or Perplexity names three tools, those three get the demo requests. Being fourth means not being considered.

  • Rankings don't guarantee mentions

A page can rank on Google and still be missing from the AI answer above it. AI assistants pick sources by different rules.

  • Wrong answers cost trust

Outdated pricing, missing features or a competitor's framing of your product all reach buyers before your sales team does.

  • Early movers compound

The brands AI assistants cite today become the sources they keep citing. Every month you're absent, a competitor fills the gap.

Platform by platform

How to rank on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews

Each assistant builds answers differently. Winning them all starts with knowing what each one trusts.

  • ChatGPT

Answers from what the model learned in training plus live web search for many questions. Brands that appear consistently across reviews, comparison articles, forums and credible publications are the ones it names.

What matters most: consistent mentions in trusted sources

  • Perplexity

Searches the web live for every question and shows its sources. Clear pages that answer the question directly, with current facts, get cited most.

What matters most: direct, current, well-structured pages

  • Google AI Overviews and Gemini

Built on Google's index and its understanding of entities. Pages that already perform in search and describe your brand clearly and consistently have the edge.

What matters most: strong SEO foundations and clear entity data

  • Claude

Uses web search for current questions and leans toward authoritative, well-explained sources. Depth and accuracy beat volume.

What matters most: authoritative, in-depth content

The framework

Four dimensions of AI search visibility

Being mentioned is only the start. These four tell you whether AI search is winning you buyers or sending them elsewhere.

  1. Brand citation presence

Whether AI assistants mention or recommend you when buyers ask about your category, use case or competitors.

  2. Citation accuracy and framing

How you're described when you do appear. Wrong pricing, missing features or a weak position can cost the deal before it starts.

  3. Competitive citation gap

Which competitors get named in the answers you're missing from, and why the assistants trust them over you.

  4. Source authority signals

The reviews, publications, forums and pages AI assistants draw from in your category, and where you need to be represented.

The process

How I measure AI search visibility

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Map buyer prompts

The questions your buyers actually ask, from "best tool for" to "is it safe" to "X vs Y".

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Run every assistant

Each prompt across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Trace the sources

Who gets named, how you're described and which pages the answers draw from.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Rank the fixes

Every gap ranked by revenue impact, with the fastest wins first.

What moves the needle

Built for how SaaS and fintech buyers decide

The sources AI assistants trust differ by industry. So do the fixes.

SaaS

Buyers ask AI to compare tools, find alternatives and check integrations. The brands that win are the ones with clear comparison pages and a strong presence on the review sites assistants read.

What I focus on

  • Comparison pages
  • Alternatives pages
  • Integration pages
  • Review site presence
  • Use case content

Fintech

Buyers ask AI whether a product is safe, licensed and fairly priced. The brands that win answer those questions clearly on their own pages and in the sources assistants trust.

What I focus on

  • Safety and regulation
  • Fees transparency
  • Trust and review signals
  • Press and publications
  • Consistent brand facts

How to get it

Not a separate service. Part of every engagement.

Google and AI search draw on the same signals, so I treat them as one strategy. AI search visibility is built into both ways I work.

Questions

AI search visibility FAQ

Can you influence what AI tools say about your brand?

Yes, through the signals they rely on. AI assistants build answers from sources they trust: review sites, comparison articles, forums, publications and your own pages. When those sources describe you clearly and consistently, the answers follow. My job is to find the sources shaping answers in your category and get you represented in them accurately.

Is AI search visibility the same as SEO?

It overlaps but it isn't the same. Strong SEO, authority and brand mentions all help. AI search also rewards being cited, being described accurately and appearing in the sources assistants trust. It's measured differently too, by mentions and citations instead of rankings and clicks.

What is GEO and how is it different from AEO?

GEO, or generative engine optimization, is the work of getting your brand cited in AI-generated answers. It's also called LLM optimization or AI search optimization. AEO, or answer engine optimization, is the older term for winning direct answers such as featured snippets and voice results. They overlap heavily, so I treat both as part of one search strategy.

How do you measure AI search visibility?

I build a set of prompts from what your buyers actually ask, then run them across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. I record whether you're mentioned, how you're described, which competitors appear and which sources are cited. The process is part manual and part automated, so the findings reflect real answers.

Which AI assistants do you track?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. These are where SaaS and fintech buyers now research and compare products.

How long before AI answers change?

It depends on the platform. Assistants that search the web live, like Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, can reflect changes within weeks. Answers that lean on a model's training data move slower, often over months. That's why I prioritize the fixes that show up fastest.

Do schema and structured data help with AI search?

They help AI systems understand who you are and what you offer, which supports accurate descriptions. Schema alone won't get you cited. It works best alongside clear content and mentions in trusted sources.

Is this relevant for my business?

If your buyers research products on Google, ChatGPT or Perplexity before they buy, yes. The impact is strongest for SaaS and fintech companies with long consideration cycles, where buyers compare options and check trust before signing up.
